Seppo Pohjola

Composer

Composer Seppo Pohjola has gone through modernist and neo-romantic phases in his career, increasingly often creating works that cannot easily be classified as one or the other. Pohjola has turned to traditional large classical genres, including the symphony, string quartet, concerto, and opera during the later part of his career. His works have been widely recorded by leading Finnish ensembles.Born in 1965 he studied with Paavo Heininen and Erkki Jokinen at the Sibelius
Academy from 1990 to 1995, after which he has been a freelance composer.
"Indeed, this composer's ear for color, combined with his inventiveness, sets him above the mass of composers of our time"
-David DeBoor Canfield/Fanfare Magazine
